College Life: Kitchen Etiquette

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Here are some things that just make life a lot easier in the kitchen. (most of these ideas can be attributed to my mom and grandma :)
1. When cooking/baking, make sure to leave enough counter space for someone else to make their meal as well. It seems like most of the time when one person decides it's time to eat, others do too.
2. If a pan boils over or something spills, don't leave it! Please. Go and get a rag or sponge or desired cleaning device and take care of it right away if possible. If it is on the burner make a mental note to clean it up after the meal is finished.
3. After eating, make sure to do three things:

  1. Wipe up cooking and eating areas. 99.9% of the time there is a crumb or two at the very least.
  2. Put away left overs and label your name on the container if it is not already on it.
  3. Put the used pans, bowls and/or dishes in the dishwasher* and hand wash what needs to be hand washed.
*if it is full refer to #4.
4. Whenever there is some extra time check on the dishwasher. Everyone I have ever met in college is really busy! Usually students have jobs or extracurricular activities along with school and homework. So take that extra time to help everyone out and unload the dishes if they are clean (I can do it in five minutes if I really want to) or start it up if they are dirty (and no one has just gotten in the shower).
5. If someone is going to college they are considered a grown up. Which means (in my book) they can clean up after themselves. So the main point is if you make a mess, clean it up and help others out if you can.

Well, this has been fun. Now let's see if it's actually useful.
