Rock Climbing. Safe.

So today I went rock climbing! I have never ever ever even done one of those fake things. Do you want to know why? well of course you do. Because I was super scared! But today I did it. I did it and I looked down and I wasn't afraid!

When we were walking up the path to the wall I didn't feel nearly as nervous as I thought I would. I was really glad about that.  Then, while my friend was setting up the ropes at the top of the climb, I was sitting there praying: "please don't let me die. Actually please don't let him die or else then I'll definitely die too!" So he repelled down and then started to climb the actual wall. I tried to memorize every grip he took so that when I went I would have it easy. Yeah that didn't work. There were too many. Plus the view from down where I was is a lot different than the view where he was. So after he got up to the TOP I let him back down and then it was my turn to climb it.

By this time my hands were shaking like a leaf. Not one on the tree, no no, one that has already fallen off the tree and is in mid air on its way to the ground. Deep breaths. Wooh! This is perfectly safe. So I got hooked up, pumped up and started up. Let me tell you. Even writing about it brings back the chills. I started off good. Then there were no places for my feet. But I found them. Then there were no places for my hands. Then I found them. It was an endless and challenging cycle. I loved it though. It was really fun! There was one time that I slipped and did a little pirouette on the rope. I panicked, grabbed the rope, closed my eyes and waited for the impact...I was so scared! But my friend at the bottom held me tight and I did not fall. I was safe! I was glad for that fall (not that I would ever want to do that again). That helped me to learn that I really was safe. I made it about 3/4 of the way up to the top. But then I got shaky and decided to stop.

Would I do it again? Definitely! It was a great experience! I learned a lot of new stuff and....I faced my fear!

P.S. I have some pictures...well my friend does. Maybe I'll put them up later.

  1. I'd love to see those pics DaeNeese! So fun to hear the story. Be sure to thank your friend for me- for catching you...I know what you mean by, "it was good" though. There's nothing like knowing that you REALLY are safe!
Thanks for the lunch date yesterday. And thanks especially for the "gift". I will cherish it forever.
